Ask Lumen
Lumen is the AI assistant that works across Orbit, Forge, Pulse and Folio. It answers from the live data of those products, cites what it read, sees only what you are allowed to see, and changes nothing without your click.
In this tutorial you open the panel, ask a question about something you have open, read the sources, and try Find everywhere.
1. Open the panel
Section titled “1. Open the panel”Use the Lumen button in the top bar, or press Ctrl+J (Cmd+J on a Mac). It works in every section: Orbit, Forge, Pulse and Folio.
The panel has two modes: Ask and Find everywhere.
2. See what Lumen knows you have open
Section titled “2. See what Lumen knows you have open”Under the question box the panel shows Uses: …, the thing you currently have open: a work item, a Folio page or space, a repository, merge request or pipeline in Forge, or an incident, error or monitor in Pulse. If you selected text, the selection is used too. Next to it you find suggested questions for that kind of item.
3. Ask a question
Section titled “3. Ask a question”-
Open a work item and choose a suggestion such as a summary of the item with its discussion, or type your own question.
-
The answer streams in. Press Stop at any time to cut the answer and the model off.
-
Try other things Lumen can read for you:
- a Folio page (summary);
- a merge request (“Summarize this merge request”, or a review that proposes line comments as cards);
- a failed pipeline (“Why did it fail?”, with the cause taken from the job log);
- an incident, with its logs and deployments, and the question “What broke?” which answers from the incident, its monitors, the deployment and its commits, related Orbit work and the Folio runbook.
-
Follow up in the same conversation. Open History to continue, rename or delete earlier conversations. They are visible only to you.
Writing help
Section titled “Writing help”Lumen can draft a description, improve or translate selected text, and insert the result into the Folio editor as a draft (it is never published by itself). It can also propose a new Folio page as a card.
4. Read the sources
Section titled “4. Read the sources”Statements in an answer carry numbered sources like [1]. Each source shows its product, the date it changed and the author, and opens the item.
- Folio pages older than 180 days are marked may be outdated.
- When two sources disagree, the answer shows both values with their dates.
- If nothing supports an answer, Lumen says it did not find anything and suggests where to look. It does not guess.
Answers are shown as formatted text. HTML in an answer stays plain text, there are no external images, and external links are marked.
5. Use Find everywhere
Section titled “5. Use Find everywhere”Find everywhere searches all four products at once, with the permissions of each, and lists the results together. It needs no model. If a product is unavailable, the results are marked as partial.
When your question is turned into a search, you see the result of the search under the answer: a JQL query for Orbit work, or a Pulse log query, with a button to open it in the product. Both queries are validated by the product before you see them.
6. Give feedback and post an answer
Section titled “6. Give feedback and post an answer”- Rate an answer with thumbs up or down. For thumbs down, pick a reason (wrong, incomplete, no sources, outdated, slow or other) and add a comment.
- Comment on KEY opens a draft comment with the sources, marked “Drafted with Orbit Lumen”. Your browser posts it to the work item as you, only after you press Post comment.
