Self-hosted Enterprise
Self-hosted Enterprise is a planned option for organizations that must run Orbit on their own servers. It is Planned: it is not built, and there is no installation package yet. This page says how it is planned to work, so you can judge whether it fits.
What is available today
Section titled “What is available today”Orbit is a hosted service. Each company works on its own address, <company>.orbit.inortix.com. There is no way to install Orbit on your own servers yet.
If you need a self-hosted installation, tell us through the contact page. Enterprise is arranged by contract.
The licence file
Section titled “The licence file”A self-hosted installation takes its rights from a signed licence file. Orbit issues the file. The installation reads these things from it:
| The licence says | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Who it was issued to | The customer |
| Plan | The Enterprise plan |
| Seats | How many people the installation may have |
| Products | Which of Orbit, Orbit Forge, Orbit Pulse, Orbit Folio and Orbit Lumen are included |
| Features | Which features are switched on |
| Term | How long the licence is valid |
The file is checked offline, with a public key that ships inside the release. The check needs no network.
When the licence expires
Section titled “When the licence expires”A licence has a term. After the term ends, the installation does not stop at once.
- A grace period begins. The installation keeps working.
- When the grace period ends, the installation becomes read-only. People can still read their data, but they cannot change it.
Read-only is the same mode that the hosted plans are planned to use for an organization that is over its limits. See Plans and billing.
What else a self-hosted installation needs
Section titled “What else a self-hosted installation needs”The licence is only one part. A separate release for customer installations is also planned, with:
- installation,
- updates,
- backups,
- documentation for administrators.
These are Planned.
Lumen on your own installation
Section titled “Lumen on your own installation”On a self-hosted installation, an administrator will be able to connect Lumen to an open-weight model through an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. A paid provider is used only when an administrator adds a key and sets a budget. The budget is $0 by default. This needs the self-hosted licence and is Planned. See Models and providers.
On Orbit’s cloud, Lumen answers with Claude Haiku 5.5 from Anthropic. This is In development.
