Orbit

Work tracking that shows its working

Projects, boards, sprints, JQL-style search, workflows, reports and cross-team plans. Every count opens the search that produced it, and teams moving from Jira bring their queries and their export.

Orbit

Configuration is explicit. Reports are replayed from history. Nothing is a black box.

Orbit tracks work for software and business teams: work items with a typed hierarchy, Scrum and Kanban boards, backlog and sprints, list, calendar and timeline views, forms, goals, dashboards, cross-team plans with capacity and scenarios, and automation rules. Custom fields, screens and workflows are explicit, and every count on a report opens the search that produced it.

Why it is better

Why teams plan in Orbit

Reports you can audit

Burndown, velocity, cumulative flow, control chart and epic and version burndowns are replayed from recorded field history, never from today’s state. Exports carry scope, time zone and data version.

Configuration with drafts and impact previews

Workflow and scheme changes are drafted, warned about, previewed for impact and published with a status migration plan and concurrent-edit protection.

Jira habits carry over

A typed JQL subset including WAS and CHANGED, an editor with suggestions and a published capability manifest.

Search in the team’s language

Full-text search with one to three of 30 language configurations per site. Russian and English word forms by default.

Plans with scenarios that do not overwrite

Proposed edits live in scenarios, auto-scheduling is previewed deterministically, and chosen fields commit back with stale-item conflict handling.

Permissions explained

One permission scheme everyone can read, and a helper that shows, for a person and a work item, each permission allowed or refused, with the reason.

Capabilities

What you get, group by group

Everything below is listed with its real status. Items with no badge are built and working today.

Projects and work items

A typed hierarchy, explicit configuration and safe bulk changes.

  • Project templates

Software, business, service and discovery project families with the right workflows. Team-managed or company-managed configuration is chosen at creation.

  • Work item types and hierarchy

Epic, story, task, bug and sub-task plus types your admins define. Moves are validated and cycles are impossible.

  • Fields, estimates and dates

Rich description, priority, resolution, labels, start and due dates, original and remaining estimates, story points and time spent.

  • Clone, move, split and convert

Clone with the sub-tasks, links and attachments you choose. Move across projects with a mapping preview and keep history.

  • Bulk operations

Edit, assign, transition, move, archive and delete as permission-checked background jobs with a result per row.

7 more
  • Rich text, attachments and commentsSanitised rich text with mentions, tables and images. Comments carry reactions, edit history and restricted visibility.
  • Templates and recurring workWork item templates and server-side schedules with de-duplication and time-zone tests.
  • Links and dependenciesTyped inward and outward links, dependencies and remote links. Restricted summaries stay hidden.
  • Components and versionsComponents with leads, versions with release, archive and merge.
  • Archive, trash and key renameRead-only archive, trash with 1 to 365 days retention and key rename with redirects.
  • Project summaryEvery count opens the search that produced it, with the same total.
  • History, watching, voting and work logsField changelog written in the same transaction as the change.

Boards, backlog and sprints

Scrum and Kanban over a saved filter, with moves that run real transitions.

  • Scrum and Kanban boards

Boards over a saved filter, single or multi-project. Moving a card runs the real workflow transition and asks for required fields.

  • Rank, swimlanes and quick filters

Drag-and-drop and keyboard ranking with conflict handling. Swimlanes by assignee, epic or query.

  • Card layout and WIP limits

Extra fields, colour rules, days in column and per-column limits with live warnings.

  • Backlog with epic and version panels

Multi-select moves without losing rank and drag assignment to epics and versions.

  • Sprint lifecycle

Create, start with an estimate baseline, complete and choose where unfinished work goes. Parallel sprints and reopen.

3 more
  • Large boardsPagination and virtualisation, so no board needs every historical item downloaded.
  • Kanban backlog and release columnHide released work or release the last column as a version.
  • Saved boards directoryAll boards or those you administer, copy, settings and delete.

Views, forms and goals

  • List view

Columns each person adds, resizes and reorders. Sort, group, edit inline and keep named personal or shared views.

  • Calendar and timeline

Reschedule by dragging in your time zone. Timeline shows epics, dependencies with warnings and zoom.

  • Forms that create work

A designer maps questions to fields. Share with signed-in people or by link, with abuse controls.

  • Goals

Link work to organization goals with derived progress and bounded cross-project views.

3 more
  • Personal home and command palette"For you" with assigned, watched, recent and starred work. Press / or Ctrl+K for recent items, projects and boards.
  • Business approvalsApproval templates with real workflow decisions and notifications.
  • Pages remember your choicesBoard, list, calendar and report settings are saved per person on the server.

Workflows and configuration

Change configuration with drafts, previews and a migration plan, not by surprise.

  • Workflow editor with drafts and publication

Statuses, transitions, draft and published versions, impact preview, a status migration plan and warnings for unreachable states.

  • Conditions, validators and post-actions

Transition permissions, required fields, transition screens and deterministic post-actions.

  • Approval steps

Approvers, quorum, delegation and an audit trail.

  • Typed custom fields

Text, number, URL, date, boolean, user, group, select, multi-select and cascading, with contexts and defaults.

  • Screens and schemes

Create, edit and view screens with tabs. Work type, priority and resolution schemes.

2 more
  • Configuration export, import and copyPortable bundles with logical references and no tenant ids. Usage reports and safe clean-up of unused configuration.
  • Project features and navigationPer-project toggles, navigation order and default view.

Dashboards and reports

Reports are replayed from recorded history, so they can be audited.

  • Dashboards and widgets

Shared, copied and starred dashboards. Every widget reads with the viewer’s permissions and shows its refresh time.

  • Burndown, burnup, sprint report and velocity

Reconstructed from events, with marks for work added after the start and estimate changes.

  • Cumulative flow and control chart

Status occupancy over time. Cycle time with chosen statuses, excluded dates and a rolling average.

  • Epic and version burndown

Scope and estimates replayed day by day with a forecast from the last three sprints.

  • Workload and statistics

Time tracking by user and version, group-by and two-dimensional matrices for built-in and custom fields.

1 more
  • Scope and exportsEach report states its scope. Exports carry filters, time zone and data version.

Plans and capacity

  • Cross-project plans

Sources from projects, boards and filters. Initiatives above epics with roll-ups of dates, progress and estimates.

  • Dependencies and warnings

Cross-team dependencies with cycle and date warnings. Missing estimates and over-capacity roll up to inspectable items.

  • Teams and capacity

Shared or plan-only teams with iteration, velocity and capacity per sprint, including holidays.

  • Auto-schedule and scenarios

Deterministic scheduling preview. Compare what-if scenarios and commit chosen fields back to work items.

1 more
  • Releases and shared viewsRelease milestones with on-track evaluation. Sharing never bypasses work item visibility.

Automation and imports

Built and in final testing. Badges show where each item stands.

  • Rule builder with steps and versionsIn development

Conditions, if/else and branches over children, parents, linked or JQL-found work. Published versions with restore.

  • Triggers and schedulesIn development

Created, updated, transitioned, commented and sprint events, calendar schedules, manual runs and signed incoming webhooks.

  • Conditions, actions and smart valuesIn development

Field, JQL and related-work conditions. Edit, label, create, link, comment, notify and send web requests with project secrets.

  • Run audit, retries and replayIn development

Every run keeps its steps, timings and errors. Replay with idempotency.

  • Jira Cloud importIn development

Work items, comments, work logs, history and attachments from a Jira Cloud export, with a compatibility report. A four-step wizard in project settings.

  • CSV import wizard

Suggested mapping that recognises Jira headers, dry run, duplicate policy, batches that pause and resume, and failed rows as a CSV.

3 more
  • Monthly run quotaIn developmentRuns that reached an action count against the site quota with 80% and 100% notices.
  • Scope, actor and budgetsIn developmentRules across projects, acting as owner, initiator or service account, with loop protection.
  • Copy, export and import of rulesIn developmentLogical references, secrets never exported.

Notifications and collaboration

  • In-app inbox

Unread counts, mentions and watched changes that survive reconnects.

  • Email schemes and preferences

Per-project schemes by role, group or person. Immediate, daily digest or off, with one-click unsubscribe.

  • PresenceIn development

See who else is reading a work item and who is typing.

3 more
  • Live updatesOther sessions refresh through server-sent events. Missed events recover from durable state.
  • Mail delivery logQueued, sent, failed and bounced mail with retries and resend.
  • Keyboard shortcutsC, /, Ctrl+K, Ctrl+J, Esc and ?. Dialogs trap and return focus.

Later modules

Separate stages after the core. Not started.

  • Service managementPlanned

Customer portal, request types, queues, SLAs, on-call, incidents and changes.

  • Assets and configuration managementPlanned

Object schemas, typed attributes, graph view and imports.

  • Product discoveryPlanned

Ideas, prioritisation, roadmaps and delivery links.

Compatibility and migration

Bring your Jira habits and your data

Migration is a first-class feature. Write the queries you already know, and move work in from an export.

  • JQL-style search

A typed query language with history predicates. Unsupported syntax gets an explicit error and a position, never a wrong result.

  • Jira Cloud importIn development

A Jira Cloud export imports with comments, work logs, history and attachments, behind a four-step wizard and a compatibility report of what was matched.

  • CSV import that knows Jira headers

Suggested field mapping, a dry run, a duplicate policy and batches that pause and resume. Failed rows come back as a CSV.

JQL-style queryjql
project = WEB AND status CHANGED FROM "In Progress" TO "Done" AFTER -7d
ORDER BY updated DESC

History predicates: WAS, WAS NOT, WAS IN, CHANGED with AFTER, BEFORE, ON, DURING, BY, FROM and TO.
